Tiger Techs Receive Second Place Champions Award at North American Championship

The Tiger Techs (Team Black) are back from California after competing with 68 teams from all over North America, Asia, Africa, and Australia.  The Tiger Techs (Team Black) competed at the FIRST LEGO League North American Robotics Tournament held from May 17-19th, 2019 at the LEGOLAND Resort in Carlsbad, California.   The Techs qualified to attend LEGOLAND by receiving a 2ndplace Champions Award in Pittsburgh back in December at the Western PA Grand Championship held at Sewickley Academy.

While at LEGOLAND, the Tiger Techs competed in the categories of Robot, Project, and Core Values.  After three days of competition, the Tiger Techs received the Second Place Champions Award.  The Champions Award is the highest award given to any team at a tournament and only two are recognized.  The award recognizes a team that embodies the FIRST LEGO League experience, by fully embracing the Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in both Robot Game and Project.

The robotics teams are part of the FIRST Lego League organization. FIRST stands for “For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.” The Tiger Techs are comprised of students in elementary and middle school grades from the Sharon City School District. They are under the leadership of Dave Tomko, Kelly Roys, and Darcy Wiesen.  The teams are funded by community sponsors from the Shenango Valley and the Sharon City School District.
