Tiger Techs “Paint the Park”

After receiving the task in August to increase interest in a hobby by incorporating the arts and technology, Sharon Tiger Techs Team Black set their sights on a local innovative solution. The Tiger Techs created an art trail that involved the community every step of the way. In collaboration with Buhl Park, the Techs kicked-off the unveiling of the permanently installed artwork in April along the fitness trail at Buhl Park.

The planning for the art trail project started in August and kicked-off with the art event, Paint the Park, back on October 15th where over 100 artists converged and painted scenes of Buhl Park.  Community members of all ages and art backgrounds were invited to participate.  Several local organizations including HopeCat, Random Acts of Artists, musicians, and local artists participated.  Five pre-selected locations on the trail hosted art stations where participants created artwork depicting that scene. Following the October event,  a panel of judges from the community reviewed the completed artwork and selected one from each of the five scenes/locations to be displayed on the trail.  Sharon Commercial Printing of Sharon designed panels to display the artwork and have since installed them along the trail.  The artwork panels include a unique QR code that directs visitors to a website where visitors can “Meet the Artist” with each piece of artwork at www.paintthepark.org. The goal of the project was to increase art participation not only on the day of the event, but also to inspire creativity in  those who visit the park’s fitness trail for many years to come. The ribbon cutting ceremony opened the trail of artwork displays for the public to enjoy.

Funds for the Paint the Park event and project totalled over $5,000 and were provided by the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH including the Gurgovits Family Foundation, Bill and Stella Perrine Foundation, Winner Foundation, and Wilson Trust Fund.  Additional support was also provided by Sharon Commercial Printing.
